Defining the Livepeer Network Value Proposition(s)

Hello Livepeer Community,

It was wonderful to see so many of you at the Livepeer Summit in Portugal, and to feel the energy in the community again after being away for over a year. For those who couldn’t make it, I gave a talk on the Go-To-Market opportunity for the Livepeer Network within the broader open source AI and video ecosystems. As the Livepeer Foundation steps into a leadership role for the project and Livepeer Inc focuses on DayDream, I think there has never been a more exciting moment for Livepeer.

The core message of my talk was:

The technical foundations of Livepeer are strong, but the project now needs to translate that into clear market value: what can the Livepeer Network uniquely offer in today’s AI-disrupted market for open video infrastructure? In practice that means:

  • Clarifying the Network’s value propositions — what problems does Livepeer uniquely solve for which target audiences.

  • Bridging the gap between engineering and market adoption — ensuring the incredible technical work translates into real user and partner growth.

  • Creating tighter product-market feedback loops through trust building and deeper engagement in key open source ecosystems across AI, video, and social.

What’s Next?

In my talk I proposed an SPE to lead this work, however in discussing with Rich and Ben after the Summit, we agreed there is some urgent baseline work that needs to be completed. So over the next month, I’ll be working within the Livepeer Foundation to:

  1. Complete a landscape analysis — mapping competitors, partners, and market segments across Web3 and Web2 media compute and infra.

  2. Conduct a Network value proposition discovery — conducting interviews with current as well as potential users and customers of the Network to understand how they’re using it and their pain points. This includes existing gateways like Livepeer Studio, DayDream and StreamPlace and potential new customers in GTM verticals such as those highlighted in the Advisory Board process: https://forum.livepeer.org/t/advisory-boards-phase-1-5-gtm-strategy-2025/3019

  3. Build an initial CRM of priority customers and partners including OSS leaders, standards bodies and other projects that align with brand positioning and key value propositions that can drive demand to the Livepeer Network.

The intention is that these insights can directly inform Network GTM strategy and execution that the Foundation can lead going into 2026. Before we engage deeply with external ecosystems, we need to get crystal clear on what we’re going to market with — and why Livepeer matters now.

How you can get involved

  • I’ll be sharing the landscape report with the community for feedback — stay tuned here.

  • If you’re building gateway products, SDKs, or integrations, I’d love to connect 1:1 to learn from your experience. Feel free to DM me on Discord @ shann8817

  • If you have thoughts on who we should be learning from (projects, partners, builders), drop them in this channel or DM me directly.

I’m really looking forward to helping shape a clearer and more compelling story for the Livepeer Network — one that builds on everything already happening across Livepeer Inc, the SPEs, the wider Livepeer ecosystem and community to ensure sustainable growth of the Network.

On behalf of the Foundation committee, we are super excited to have you back, Shann!

With Livepeer Inc’s new focus on Daydream and the launch of the Livepeer Foundation, this is such a critical moment for the Livepeer project.

We recognize its key to do a lot of the ground work around customer discovery for the network to set us up for the coming year.

With your experience of both the Livepeer project and the video space, we are super excited to have you on board and hone a new value proposition for the future :fire:
