GWID – A Simpler Way to Run Your Own Livepeer Gateway and Infra - self-host

Hey everyone,

I’m excited to introduce GWID — a fully-managed devOp web-tool that makes it easy to set up and manage your own Livepeer Gateway without the hassle.

Think of GWID as a kind of Elest.io, but purpose-built for the Livepeer ecosystem. We take the stress out of infrastructure so you can focus on building your app, product, service, or business — not managing servers.

What You Can Do with GWID:

  • Launch a fully managed or self-hosted Livepeer Gateway - one-click setups on your VM (BYOVM) , cloud accounts(BYOAWS) or on-premise servers.

  • Handle transcoding and AI workflows with no complex setup.

  • Plug in add-ons like Owncast (for live streaming) or performance tools like a load
    balancer,CDN, Storage etc.

  • Customize your Gateway to serve your needs — like a DIY, lean version of Livepeer
    Studio, tailored to your product.

Why We’re Building It:

Running a Gateway shouldn’t require DevOps experience. GWID makes it easy to compose your own infrastructure by combining your Gateway with the tools or services you need — whether you’re building a new video platform, experimenting with AI, or setting up your own monetizable service.

What’s Happening Now?

  • Expanded the core team with a new contributor

  • UI/UX cleanup and bug fixes underway for the first round of community testing

  • Writing the GWID pre-proposal — outlining a future where anyone can run or discover
    Gateways.

Who We Are

We’re a small team of engineers building an open-source tool. We’re not a company, just folks passionate about Livepeer and making it easier for others to build with it.

  1. Eneche – Technical & Community Lead

    Software engineer who’s been active in the Livepeer community for over 2 years.

  • Built and maintained open-source packages like livepeerjs-ima and livepeerjs-ar

  • Proposed and contributed to the XMTP Messenger used in the Liver Pioneer app

  • Received multiple grants from the Livepeer Grants team

  • Helped other grantees ship their projects

  • Completed the Farcaster x Livepeer bounty from AI SPE

  1. Joel – Operations Lead
    DevOps and cloud engineer with a cybersecurity background (Consultant at EY(Big 4)).
  • Spent 4 weeks with the Livepeer Inc team working on scraping metrics from gateways for
    real-time AI video infra
  1. David – Software Engineer
    Builds software and microservices that solve real problems.
    • Recently worked as lead frontend engineer at Joystick, integrating Livepeer into their
      livestream stack
