Livepeer Cloud’s core mission is to increase accessibility and adoption of the Livepeer network. We aim to achieve this by integrating the Livepeer Network seamlessly into users’ existing workflows and eliminate the need for them to “move” to Livepeer.

Summary

In 2024, Livepeer.Cloud SPE advanced its mission of increasing accessibility and adoption of the Livepeer network through two key proposals.

Proposal #1 focused on providing a free-to-use Livepeer.Cloud Gateway, integrating Livepeer with the open-source media server Owncast, and simplifying gateway operations with clear documentation.
This effort led to the growth of Gateway Nodes from 8 in February to over 35 today, with 0.72878 ETH (~$2,250) in fees paid and 853,000 minutes transcoded.
Despite challenges with user adoption, the initiative laid the groundwork for improved analytics and reporting.

Proposal #2 aimed to enhance AI capabilities within the Livepeer network.
Deliverables included an AI Job Tester application, integration of AI metrics into the Leaderboard Data API, and the deployment of an AI Performance Leaderboard on the Livepeer Explorer.
These efforts resulted in 155,000 AI jobs processed and 3.42 ETH (~$9,250) in fees paid.

Additionally, tools like the Performance Inspector, AI Generator, and tools.livepeer.cloud were developed to provide deeper insights and enhance user experience.

This year’s achievements mark significant progress toward making Livepeer more accessible and scalable.

Provide a Free-to-Use Livepeer Gateway

Secured funding and provisioning for the Livepeer.Cloud Gateway Node, ensuring free-to-use access through February 2025.

Integration of Livepeer with an Open-Source Media Server – Owncast

Developed and deployed core integration between Owncast and the Livepeer.Cloud Gateway Node to support decentralized live streaming.

Demystify Livepeer Gateway Node Operations

Created simplified documentation to streamline the setup process and facilitate integration with the Livepeer.Cloud Gateway Node, lowering the barrier for new users and operators.

Broadcaster Deployment

Our efforts have enabled others to quickly bootstrap additional Gateway Nodes on the Livepeer network ( 8 Gateways February 2024 - Over 35 Gateways Today).

Early Adoption and Usage Metrics

The integration with Owncast led to initial adoption, although usage has declined in recent months. Despite the drop, the initiative has delivered tangible results:

  • Total ETH Fees Paid to Orchestrators: 0.72878 ETH (~$2,250 USD)
  • Total Minutes Transcoded: 853,000 minutes

Challenges and Opportunities

Expanding adoption has been challenging due to limited user sign-ups and the lack of detailed reporting and analytics from the gateway nodes. This presents an opportunity to enhance the network by implementing improved analytics and reporting capabilities. Enhanced insights could drive better user engagement, more efficient operations, and greater transparency, ultimately helping to scale the network more effectively.

Objectives

Enhance the visibility of AI capabilities within the Livepeer network.

Key deliverables:

  • Adding AI job testing to the Leaderboard Data API
  • Integrating AI jobs into the Explorer Performance Leaderboard
  • Implementing an AI Job Tester
  • Operating AI job testing through August 2025

Results

AI Job Tester Application

An AI Job Tester application was successfully developed and deployed. This application executes test jobs against the active set of AI Orchestrators, ensuring consistent performance evaluation and providing reliable benchmarking data.

Leaderboard Data API

The existing Leaderboard Data API, hosted by the leaderboard-serverless Vercel app, was enhanced to support both AI and transcoding job data. The AI Job Tester feeds test results directly into this API, ensuring that AI job performance data is accurately captured and available for analysis.

Livepeer Explorer: AI Performance Leaderboard

The Leaderboard uses the Leaderboard Data API to present AI job & Transcoding performance metrics in a user-friendly interface. This update provides greater visibility into AI orchestrator performance within the network.
