StreamETH Research and Development SPE

Proposal Author(s) and Contact
Pablo, pablo@streameth.org, @pblvrt

Abstract
StreamETH is a leading decentralized video platform integrating AI-powered features to enhance live streaming and content creation workflows. This proposal requests 12,000 LPT from the Livepeer onchain treasury to fund the next stage of AI-driven development, improving efficiency, accessibility, and video production capabilities. The funding will support AI-enhanced video editing, automated highlight generation, and AI voice translation, ensuring StreamETH continues to drive adoption for Livepeer-powered video applications.

Motivation
Livepeer provides an open, decentralized, and cost-effective infrastructure for video streaming and AI-driven media applications. However, video creators and event organizers need specialized tools that streamline workflows, reduce editing time, and automate content repurposing.

StreamETH addresses these challenges with a fully integrated video production suite that leverages Livepeer’s infrastructure. Our AI-powered features—such as real-time transcription, AI-driven highlights, and automated editing—help professionals produce, manage, and distribute content efficiently. This grant will accelerate feature development, onboarding, and adoption, increasing Livepeer utilization and reinforcing its position in the decentralized media ecosystem.

Rationale
StreamETH is committed to advancing decentralized video production by integrating Livepeer AI and Livepeer Studio into practical, real-world applications. By enhancing AI automation, real-time video editing, and multilingual accessibility, StreamETH makes video production more efficient, scalable, and user-friendly. The requested funding will support the development of key AI features, increase Livepeer’s usage metrics, and grow the StreamETH user base, ensuring that Livepeer remains the leading infrastructure for AI-powered video solutions.

StreamETH Achievements So Far

  • 2021-Present: Active contributor to Livepeer’s ecosystem
  • 120+ major events hosted (Devcon, ETHCC, ETHDenver, etc.)
  • 5,329+ videos hosted and 3,000+ hours transcribed
  • 6,000+ hours of video streamed
  • 30% year-over-year growth in Livepeer-powered transcoding usage
  • Built-in AI video editing & transcription workflow for event professionals
  • 100% open-source and self-hostable

With this funding, we aim to scale AI capabilities and expand to new industries beyond web3, such as education, podcasting, and corporate events.

It looks to me like a funding grant for your own project rather than SPE enabling other projects to start. There is nothing about who will power those AI functions, part of the requested funding are gonna be used for gpus, what about orchestrators’ gpus? How will they be used? How will treasury benefit from this?

Hey there, thanks for the reply.

Yes, this is indeed a SPE to fund a project I started and maintain along a group of other developers.

Its a open source and self hostable platform that was created in 2020 and has been using Livepeer since:

https://github.com/streamethorg/streameth-platform

In terms of contributions, here is a simple tldr:

  • As far as I know, streameth is the only project that allows anyone to spin up their own video platfrom and use all of Livepeers video and ai capabilities out of the box.

  • We are not bootstrapping the project with SPE funding, we are using funding to scale a successful product that has real users and that has a clear plan to drive network demand towards the goals outlined in this SPE.

Regarding your questions about GPUs:

We have already worked with Rick and the AI SPE team to use AI gateways recommended by them to run transcribing pipelines. The process of choosing which AI gateway to use for our AI pipelines would heavily rely on Ricks input.

Happy to reply to any other questions that you have,

Cheers

Is your business profitable currently? It is important and probably sharing some data could be interesting for other projects to see whether livepeer can cut some costs… I see that similar to fanteasy case, I am not against funding projects/startups using livepeer cause if they succeed it will be paid back with transcoding revenue, but there was a big discussion that it was not in line with treasury guidelines previously. It should be a grant imho

Thanks for your reply,

I think maybe I have assumed everyone in the Livepeer community already knew streameth and its impact and I need to be more specific about what we do / have done in the past.

Like I was saying in my previews reply, we have been active contributors to the Livepeer network since 2020 and we have been on of the biggest representatives of Livepeer in the web3 space.

Our project is profitable as we stream most of the web3 conferences of the event circuit:

Devcon, ethcc, Zuzalu, Ethberlin Edge city etc…

I think the case of fanteasy was that they where building an MVP that could potentially bring traffic to the network, in our case, we already have a proven and reputable project that has a track record of providing traffic but also brand awareness for the Livepeer ecosystem.

12,000 LPT seems like a reasonable ask giving the history of Pablo and his dedication to Livepeer.

StreamETH has also been a powerhouse in Livepeer since I joined.

Looks good to me.

Yep, this seems like a very reasonable ask. StreamETH has consistently been one of the highest-profile projects for Livepeer within the Ethereum community - a huge majority of Ethereum events have had a Livepeer logo next to the livestream thanks to Pablo and his team. Worth it just for that, IMO!
