Pre-proposal: DEGEN SPE

DEGEN SPE

Stream-Daemon Node [Mayor] Contact: @streamdaemon on X

Abstract

The Degen SPE Initiative is focused on increasing network participation, driving staking growth, and expanding awareness of Livepeer’s cutting-edge advancements in decentralized AI and video processing. By actively engaging on X and promoting SPE initiatives, we aim to onboard new users, support builders, and strengthen the ecosystem. Together, we build, stake, and spread the word—Livepeer is shaping the future of AI.

Mission

The Degen SPE Initiative is essential for expanding Livepeer’s presence in Web3 and driving broader adoption of its decentralized AI and video infrastructure. Right now, social outreach is limited, meaning many in the Web3 space are unaware of what Livepeer has been building. Platforms like Discord and Telegram, while valuable for internal discussions and community growth, operate in closed circuits that don’t effectively showcase Livepeer’s innovations to a wider audience.

To enhance this initiative’s effectiveness, we will collaborate with Livepeer Inc.’s Growth + Community team to ensure alignment with broader network expansion efforts. This will help streamline outreach, leverage existing community programs, and create a more cohesive strategy for engaging developers, stakers, and ecosystem partners.

AI compute demand is outpacing traditional cloud solutions, creating a massive need for scalable, cost-efficient, and decentralized alternatives. Livepeer’s AI inference layer is being developed to meet this need, but without greater staking participation and orchestrator involvement, the network risks inefficiencies, inflationary pressures, and underutilization of its AI capabilities. This initiative will ensure that Livepeer’s technology is seen, understood, and adopted by engaging the Web3 community where it matters—on X, through cross-promotion of SPE initiatives, and direct outreach to developers and AI builders.

By increasing awareness, growing the staking base, and ensuring more users participate in securing the network, Livepeer can position itself as the leading decentralized AI and video infrastructure provider—one that scales with the growing demand for compute while delivering real yield to its participants.

Rationale

The Degen SPE Initiative will directly address Livepeer’s lack of visibility in Web3 by leveraging Twitter Spaces, engaging content, and strategic networking to drive participation in the ecosystem. By establishing a consistent social presence, this initiative will ensure that Livepeer’s AI and decentralized video infrastructure are seen, discussed, and actively adopted by new users, developers, and stakers. Hosting regular Twitter Spaces will create opportunities for Livepeer builders, AI developers, and potential orchestrators to showcase their work, discuss innovations, and onboard new participants. Additionally, by creating engaging posts, educational threads, and direct outreach, we will simplify complex topics like staking, AI inference, and network participation, making it easier for users to get involved.

This initiative aligns perfectly with Livepeer’s broader mission of building an open, decentralized video and AI infrastructure by ensuring wider adoption and sustained growth through community-driven engagement. Increased staking and participation will strengthen the network, reduce inflationary pressures, and maximize the impact of Livepeer’s AI compute layer. To support these efforts, this initiative will be funded through a grant mechanism, ensuring that the time and effort spent on expanding outreach, growing the staking base, and onboarding new builders are properly compensated. Retroactive funding may also be utilized for proven contributions that have driven measurable impact, such as increased network participation, successful onboarding of orchestrators, and stronger engagement across Web3. This funding model ensures continued momentum, incentivizing long-term commitment to scaling Livepeer’s presence, adoption, and ecosystem participation.

SPE Governance Structure

The Degen SPE Initiative will operate as a community-driven effort to expand Livepeer’s presence and increase participation in its decentralized AI and video infrastructure. The primary method of engagement will be through Twitter Spaces, interactive content, and direct community outreach—all designed to educate, onboard, and activate new participants in the network. As of now, this initiative is being performed solely by myself, with a focus on hosting Spaces, producing informative posts, and connecting with Web3 builders and potential stakers. However, the long-term goal is to bring in additional participants who can contribute to content creation, outreach efforts, and network expansion.

The internal structure will remain flexible and community-driven, with an emphasis on collaboration and impact-based contributions. As the initiative grows, responsibilities will be distributed among members who can take on key roles such as co-hosting Spaces, producing content, managing outreach efforts, and assisting with network analytics. Decision-making will be guided by community input, with voting mechanisms being introduced as the initiative scales. These voting mechanisms could be on-chain governance proposals, informal polls on X, or a structured feedback loop from engaged participants.

To ensure accountability and transparency, all efforts and progress will be tracked and reported, including metrics such as network participation growth, new stakers onboarded, and overall engagement levels. As the initiative expands, it will aim to create structured processes for recognizing and rewarding contributions, allowing new members to earn incentives for their work in growing Livepeer’s ecosystem. By starting with a strong foundation of engagement and education, this SPE will ensure that Livepeer gains the visibility and adoption it needs to scale AI compute, secure its network, and drive long-term sustainability.

Milestones and timeline

This Degen SPE Initiative will begin with a one-month pilot phase, designed to test engagement strategies, gauge community response, and establish foundational outreach efforts. The initiative will operate on a 40+ hour weekly commitment, with a focus on Twitter Spaces, network expansion, and onboarding new participants. If successful, the initiative will transition into Phase 2, evolving into a quarterly funding model with an expanded team of Degen contributors actively involved in growing the ecosystem.

Alignment with Livepeer’s Mission

This initiative is not just about compensating individual contributions—it’s about ensuring that Livepeer’s decentralized AI compute layer gains traction, secures new participants, and grows its network strength.

By allocating a portion of the budget for community incentives and outreach, we ensure that Livepeer’s ecosystem expands organically while aligning with the SPE framework of strategic fund allocation.

Livepeer needs more presence, more participation, and more awareness. This initiative will actively drive all three.

Deliverables

For the first month of the Degen SPE Initiative, the following measurable outcomes will determine its success:

  • Increase in Staked $LPT – Track the percentage growth of newly staked LPT, measuring the impact of outreach and onboarding efforts.
  • Growth in AI Builders & Delegators Added – Measure the number of new AI builders and delegators onboarded, ensuring Livepeer’s ecosystem continues to expand with active participants securing the network.
  • AI Workload Expansion & Compute Power Scaling – Evaluate network activity by tracking increased AI inference tasks and workload demand, ensuring compute power is growing alongside participation.

Do we really want to go this path? Please no. Shilling your own orchestrator together with livepeer project will attract you some stake and you will be rewarded with your cut. I do not see the reason to fund such initiative with relatively low amount and call it SPE. That would be disrespect to other meaningful SPEs.

Yes, I’m promoting Livepeer, and my node is part of that, but this is bigger than just my node. I’m gaining real traction on Crypto Twitter, bringing in developers for both the Agent and AI SPE initiatives. This isn’t just about staking—it’s about growing the entire ecosystem, driving participation, and expanding decentralized AI compute.

Best,
Mayor

@Mayor, I applaud any initiative that increases network participation, drives staking growth, and expands awareness of Livepeer’s cutting-edge advancements in decentralized AI and video processing. That said, I agree with @Karolak that this proposal is currently better suited for a grant. If you’re interested, I can help you apply for a grant, or you might consider collaborating with @Jose_StableLab and @Nneoma_StableLab to reframe it into a format aligned with an SPE. If you’re curious for more details, you might explore the current protocol definition of an SPE in LIP-90 or take a look at the guidance available on the Governance Hub.

Hey @rickstaa appreciate your feedback. That’s news to me. I was advised to submit and SPE, wasn’t aware of grant programs Livepeer. I’ll look into the LIP-90. I would love some assistance if anyone is ready, willing, and able.

No problem at all! The comment above is just a recommendation based on the treasury documentation—there are no strict rules on what can be submitted. If the community supports it, it should pass. I suggested a grant because it’s generally easier to obtain than submitting a proposal and getting it approved. However, I just checked, and it looks like the Ecosystem team is working on improving the grants program and has temporarily closed it for restructuring. That might be why @cult_leader_en asked you to submit an SPE proposal.

I see the bigger picture here—this SPE is a game-changer for Livepeer’s future. The team behind it is putting in countless hours of innovation, but it feels like their efforts are falling on deaf ears. Not sure if this matters, but here are some screenshots showing the kind of work I’d be doing under this SPE.

I’ve got plenty of examples I could share, but no need to clutter the thread. Livepeer needs this kind of exposure. I dropped this in a back channel—hard to argue when you’ve got X Spaces like this going down…

I agree that LPT flies under the radar of retail investors. While efforts like those described in this SPE can also be part of an Orchestrator’s own strategy to attract stake, I see this SPE more as a Livepeer ‘ambassadors’ program. It might be good to clearly define this distinction in the proposal to avoid any ambiguity.

I think one key aspect of an SPE like this should be to make it easy for others to contribute by identifying the most effective channels to engage in the first place. Some random examples:

  • Targetted content, like a longform YouTube video or AMA comparing Livepeer vs. Theta.
  • Overlooked Web3 communities. LPT is rarely discussed in crypto subreddits. Or maybe the CoinMarketCap community section needs some more activity.
  • Physical Web3 events: conferences, hackathons and other crypto events may be critical for onboarding some of the ‘more engaged’ stakeholders.

Focusing on where and how our degens can have the biggest impact would make this initiative much more effective. For this first pilot phase it makes sense to start small and focussed and gather some data, but it is still important to put some feelers out in other channels than X to see where people bite to back up the renewal proposal.

Lastly, I noticed a heavy focus on AI in the proposal. While showcasing Livepeer’s latest AI developments is a great strategy, it’s important to highlight that Livepeer is a flexible protocol that supports transcoding and hopefully even more job types in the future. People might care more for the protocol if they understand just how LPT pivoted to adding this whole new distinct job type, giving them more confidence it can survive another bear market and gain traction in the future.

Hey @stronk

Appreciate the valuable feedback. My goal with the DEGEN SPE is to highlight the work being done across Cloud, AI, Agent, and other SPE initiatives. AI agents are the buzz right now—proven by my comment above with SUI Chain + Atoma. Real-time video AI is mind-blowing and guaranteed to turn heads. We’re building all this cutting-edge tech, but without a strong user base, who’s going to talk about it?

The challenge is, I’m not a content creator, and I don’t have the equipment to produce AMA-style YouTube videos. Just being real—I’m working off a MacBook and an iPhone. That said, in my next ask, we can explore budgeting for media production. You’re absolutely right—there are plenty of ways to connect with builders, developers, and users. My strength is in public speaking rather than long-form discussions. In addition to X, I see LinkedIn as a valuable tool. In my next proposal, I’ll request funding for a premium LinkedIn subscription to fully leverage the platform.

The ultimate goal of this SPE is to secure major brand partnerships, workshops, and hackathons while showcasing Livepeer to a wider audience. I consistently highlight video transcoding—the backbone of Livepeer’s ecosystem. In fact, here’s a tweet I posted today that landed me an invite to speak on an AI Agent Ape space this Tuesday at 5 PM PST.

I get that some of you might think what I’m proposing has been done before… Live Pioneers is making moves… I checked out their second-phase proposal. But let’s talk numbers. Their 90-day impressions, follows, etc.

Versus 6 days on just one my of accounts… I reach more in a week than they could in 90 days… Numbers don’t lie. Let me prove to all of you that engagement is exactly what Livepeer needs to succeed!

In the last 7 days, my top posts? 4 out of 6 were AI-related, and 3 out of 6 were Livepeer related… My #1 ranked post for the week was related to Livepeer.

I’m happy to explore other channels and market territories as well. I’m looking for an opportunity to prove my worth.

Like many here, I agree that Livepeer is missing awareness on crypto twitter (and in the crypto space in general). And if we’re treating this like a marketing initiative for LPT, a small ask for a test phase with an optional continuation (if the numbers are there) seems fine. I also think just focusing on Twitter/X (where you already have followers) is totally reasonable.

My issue is more on the process side: Ideally, we’d have a “marketing” SPE that gets funds from the treasury and optimizes the LPT distribution according to key metrics (e.g. to @Mayor ). But I don’t want to end up voting on multiple “small” marketing initiatives per week analyzing their CPM…

I’m not sure what the solution is for proposals like this one is. Maybe it’s fine for now to as long as they don’t pop up every few days? But it for sure shouldn’t be called an “SPE” and I’d also like some actual target metrics that we can measure against.

Btw. @Mayor you should adjust the link on your website to the orchestrating subpage (Livepeer Explorer) so that stakers can see your actual node stats and not just your personal stake
